Before I post Part two of previous post, I’d like to share something about a crazy-bundle-of-love of a woman.
It must’ve been somewhere around the first or second week of college, when I noticed one of our classmates jumping around, creating her own Land of Lalaness and leaving a glitter trail of happiness. From the moment we started getting to know each, I was in for a crazy ride and I’m not complaining!
Asheema has always been brutally honest about everything and everyone. But that isn’t what made her stand out for me. For me, it was her honesty and clarity of emotions, her ability and strength to express and acknowledge them. She’s been fearless and has always been in touch with her intuition.
It was pretty obvious that she’ll go places!
So our bud group of us four girls – Ashi, Sakshi, Apurva and I – became the Let’s-do-our-assignments-together group to the Let’s-sleepover-to-study-for-next-day’s-exam group to the Forget-it-let’s-just-have-fun group!
I thought I’d share some of our old pics, but then decided against it. I would’ve embarrassed us all! But I do have a lot of memories with them that I cherish.
Now, let me tell you why I’m writing this blog.
Even though we haven’t been in touch as often as we’d like to be, I’ve been following Asheema’s updates on Facebook and Instagram and they’re all about her new chapter in life – her acting career! And I remember talking to another friend (our college mate) about how pleasantly surprising it is. I started seeing her in TV commercials and photoshoots and she’s really something! And that wasn’t it for her, she definitely had a store full of surprises. So the last time we spoke, she told me that she bagged a lead role in a web series by, one of the highly reputable director and producers of Indian Soap series, Ekta Kapoor – and wanted to know how I like it. This series is called Dev DD and Ashi plays the role of a spirited, honest, and a bold girl named Devika – much like her self in reality.
When the trailer was out, the only thing that impressed me was that Ashi was a part of it. That’s because when I was half way through, I thought it to be another of those cliched drama series where the bold girl gets engulfed in society’s judgements and a heartbreak that she completely loses herself and her zeal for life. However! I was really glad to see the bit that shows her fight and determination to, in fact, find herself and really be who she wants to against all odds.
While I’m not here to comment on and critique how well the series is, the storyline, the depiction, the language and more, I’m definitely glad to see the lead to not just start off as a confident, strong, comfortable-in-her-own-skin woman but also end with it. She’s not someone who’ll let a man or the society break her and bring her down, she might have her weak moments but those will only help her gain more courage. She’s set out to find her lost shoe, all by herself, and not wait for someone else to do so. She’s definitely not a damsel in distress.
And I honestly think Ashi fits this role because of the many similarities. She managed to challenge stereotypes and taboos off screen and on and I think that’s great!
I hope to see her in more bold roles, such as Devika, and continue being the bundle of great energy she is.
Do watch her series Here and let me know what you think 🙂
Ashi, you’re doing a great job! You’re not just chasing your dreams but making them a reality. More power to you!
